Talk of the Town-Denver

I hear that this is the slow time of year for buying and selling houses.  Yet it occurred to me that of the six homes I've personally purchased or sold in my lifetime, I bought or sold all but one on or around Thanksgiving.  Perhaps there is no "bad" time to buy or sell. 

A home is not like a winter coat.  Most of us are not likely to buy a winter coat in the summer.   But that thinking does not apply to a home.  We need to "wear" a home all year long. 

There are many reasons to buy a home, few of which have little to do with the season.  A popular reason for buying a new home is because a family is having a child.  My three sons were born in March and January.  That meant I was looking for a "nest" in the winter.

Another popular reason for moving is a change in job, including getting a new job or retiring.  None of my research pointed to one month or season that is more popular or better than any other for changing jobs or retiring. 

Consider a great reason for buying a home is it is "on sale".  There is less inventory available in the winter months according to the National Association of Realtors, the conventional wisdom being there are far fewer buyers out there, so sellers take their homes off the market.  That means there are bargains to be had in the winter.  Add this to our incredibly low interest rates and now is a great time to buy--a home and maybe a bikini too!
