Stella's
Stella's: the only coffee house I know of that's actually in a house. Great for the pre- or post-Sushi Den crowd.

Pablo's Coffee
Pablo's, located at 6th and Washington in the heart of Capitol Hill, is now on my extremely short list of favorite coffee houses. Need I say more? To see how Pablo's made my list, read on.

Kona Coffee
This is the only indie coffee shop I could find in Lakewood. It is tucked into a strip mall. While the name had me jonesing for some great Kona coffee, I was disappointed. The place is tiny and geared for take out as opposed to face-to-face conversations with friends or clients. I had difficulty balancing my laptop on the teeny tiny wobbling table, and the bar area wasn't private enough for my discussion with my client. If I go back, it will be only to get a back of what I understand is real Kona coffee.

St. Marks
St. Mark's is a very cool and hip coffee shop, where people seem to prefer quiet surfing on their laptops rather than face to face conversations. Its funky decor attracts not only locals but others looking for alternative venues to the traditional coffee chains. If you are in the City Park, Uptown or Capitol Hill areas, its worth a visit to this local icon.

Paris on the Platte
It had been about 15 years since I had visited Paris on the Platte. This is one of the original hip and funky coffee shops in Denver. Situated in LoDo, it has been here since before there was such a thing as LoDo. It reminds me of when Rock Island was the cool place to visit.

Caribou Coffee
Caribou Coffee between University and Broadway on Evans is a great in between place to meet for those traveling from the southeast suburbs to meet a friend in Denver. Parking is convenient and the ambience is conducive to quiet conversations in a comfortable setting. Although it is a chain, it is worthy of a visit because their coffees are 85% Rain Forest Alliance certified.

Espressole Caffe
Espressole Caffe is all business. Located in the Landmark Shopping Center, it caters to the working Denver Tech Center Crowd. This is a wonderful place to make a deal.

From the Ground Up
From the Ground Up is a great little coffee shop in a tiny strip mall on the east side of Colorado Blvd between Iliff and Yale. It's independently owned and feels that way, lacking the sterile predictable atmosphere of some of the chain coffee shops. It's a great place to pull off Colorado Blvd when the traffic is terrible, and well-worth a special visit. I highly recommend From the Ground Up, for its excellent coffee and ability to carry on a private conversation in a cozy atmosphere with comfortable seating and easy parking.

Kaladi Brothers Coffee shop
Kaladi Brothers Coffee shop is a small independently-owned establishment that uses and sells organic free trade beans. It is located near DU on Evans and Gilpin. It is my favorite coffee shop in Denver. Don't expect the sterile environment of a coffee chain--this is the real deal.

Nespresso Coffee Maker
Nespresso espresso makers produce wonderful cups of coffee and espresso, and can be environmentally friendly. They are simple to use, low profile, no mess machines that produce excellent espresso in seconds. The frother that can be purchased along with the unit warms and froths soy or regular milk for superb lattes. And with just a little effort, one can clean out the grinds from the aluminum coffee capsule and throw the capsule in the recycle bin.
